Clingmans Dome - AT - Goshen Prong - Little River - Husky Gap

Date:  11/8/2014
Distance: 15.5
New Map Miles: 7.6
Total Map Miles: 625

Today's goal was to hike Goshen Prong Trail which connects the AT to the Little River Trail. Bill and Conrad were my companions on this awesome day.  We met early (7:00) at SVC.  We left from there dropping off a couple of cars at the Husky Gap trailhead before driving up to Clingmans Dome.

Clingmans Dome was beautiful this morning.

The picturesque views kept coming as we headed down the AT toward Fontana.

2.2 miles from the Tower, we turned onto Goshen prong and started our down hill slide.  There had been major snow on the previous weekend, so we had some snow to hike in and many small streams that were following freely.

The sky was as blue as blue could be today.

After 3 miles or so, the trail started hugging Goshen Prong.  It steadily grew in size as we headed down the mountain before dumping into the little river close to the end of the trail.

A very nice bridge crossed the little river just before we reached the little river trail.

We had lunch at the Little River Trail intersection before walking the 1 mile down to the Husky Gap trail.  At Husky Gap we turned right for the 4.1 mile hike to the car.  The 1st 2 miles had a 500 ft climb up to the Sugarland Trail.  Once at Sugarland the trail drops 1200' as it makes its way down to 441.

We finished off this perfect day in the woods at 2:00.
